Dresser-Rand Service Centre (Pty) Ltd. has a team of engineering experts who have developed extensive knowledge through many years of working with practical repair and maintenance applications. Our extensive vibration analysis ensures that Dresser-Rand Service Centre (Pty) Ltd. clients receive hands-on knowledge-based maintenance solutions.
The single most observed cause for vibration in rotating machines is rotor unbalance, yet sometimes this is not supported by the level of importance placed on balancing techniques. Significant development in techniques advanced in recent years, yielding extremely successful start-up and improved reliability. Balancing of machines is important to prevent fatigue failure in associated structures, to prevent excessive loading of support bearings, to prevent transmission of excessive external noise and vibration, and to improve the durability and usefulness of the machines in service.
In high and ultra high speed rotors a thorough understanding of applicable balancing technique is required. These fundamentals are understood by Dresser-Rand Service Centre (Pty) Ltd. and applied through our in-house balancing capacity and the support supplied by our partners where the size of the rotors falls outside the capacity of our Schenk balancing machine.
Services include:
- High speed balancing
- Low speed balancing
- Over speed spin testing
- Vibration spectrum analysis
Our engineers can also assist you in deciding between low and high speed balancing options. As a rule of thumb, rigid rotors are successfully low speed balanced and flexible rotors by definition are high speed balanced. If the natural frequencies of the rotor are known then a simple calculation will determine the route of best practice. Because of the vast difference in cost and lead time this is an important consideration.
